Weight Training

Weight training, also known as strength training or resistance training, is a popular exercise method that involves using weights and or other forms of resistance to challenge your muscles and help them grow stronger. The benefits of weight training are well-documented and numerous.

For one, weight training will help you build muscle mass, which has a host of health benefits. Strengthening your muscles can improve your posture, reduce your risk of injury, and even increase your metabolism. Additionally, weight training can improve your bone density, promote better sleep, reduce stress, and boost your confidence.

Increasing your overall muscle mass results in a higher RMR (resting metabolic rate), which means you burn more calories at rest! This in turn helps you to metabolise fat and lose extra weight if that is your end goal. Lifting weights causes “stress” on your skeletal system which stimulates osteoblasts in your bones and this is how your bone density increases. Bone density is vital as you age because it decreases as we age.

Contrary to popular belief, weight training doesn't have to mean bulging muscles and a bodybuilder physique. Incorporating weight-bearing exercises into your routine can be as simple as doing squats, lunges, or push-ups. I cannot stress enough that weight lifting is very beneficial to females as well and will not result in you looking “bulky” or “manly”, we as women do not produce near enough testosterone (the male dominant hormone) to build muscle at the rate that men do.

If you're new to weight training, it's best to start with lighter weights and focus on proper form and technique. It's also important to mix up your routine to prevent boredom and ensure that you're working all your muscle groups. Finally, it's important to be patient and understand that building muscle takes time.

In conclusion, weight training is a great way to improve your overall health and fitness, and can be incorporated into anyone's exercise routine with a little bit of patience and dedication.
